The Snake and the tree
Seventh grader Max’s plan to win friends, avoid bullies, and hide his limp – by mastering soccer – works brilliantly, until his foot is injured in a freak accident leaving him grounded from soccer indefinitely. When, in frustration, he bats a baseball, shattering his neighbor’s window, he is forced to meet the last guy on the street he’d want to befriend: Ti, the bully magnet.
Ti’s aunt gives Max an ultimatum: Max can tell his parents about the broken window (grounding him forever) or he can help Ti test his invention, the Quantum Locator. Max reluctantly agrees.
But what Max doesn’t know is that the Quantum Locator can find anyone anywhere, if Ti can get it working. Nor does Max know that an unlikely friendship will develop between the once invincible Max and Ti.
Max and Ti, and Max’s dog Ralphie, stumble through a portal into a land of supernatural surprises, a forest that harbors a giant snake emperor, and a mysterious Tree. Now, it’s up to the boys to get the Quantum Locator working and escape this land before Emperor Snibble, the Hollow, kills them or turns them into enemies, and Max loses the only true friend he’s ever made.
